Pamela Rosenkranz – «Sexual Power»

Pamela Rosenkranz (b. 1979, Uri, CH) is an artist working in Zurich, CH. Her work transcends materiality through explorations of the particularites composing our world, abstracting biological and cultural impacts on human experience. While the body is often the measure of size, color and shape in her works, it is omitted and expressed in its most conceptual shape.

Rosenkranz’s paintings, sculptures and installations, pair familiar objects like Evian or Fiji water bottles and Viagra (mass-produced solutions to incredibly contemporary problems) with reductions of the bodily. Almost bitingly she reduces something as large as identity to a synthetic fleshiness, bound by plastic in branded water bottles. The commercially available products she uses physically and metaphorically respond to how elemental truths have been aestheticised and resimulated. After showing at international biennials including the 5th Berlin Biennale, Manifesta 7 and the Venice Biennale, Rosenkranz represented Switzerland at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2015 with her lauded installation, Our Product.

She has been a consistent presence at further biennals amongst others Liverpool, Marrakesh, Taipei, Lyon, Sharjah, Belgrade and institutional solo and group exhibitions over the past decade including at the Kunsthalle Basel, Fondazione Prada, Milan, Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hongkong, Louisiana, Humlebaek, Okayama Art Summit, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow and Witte de With, Rotterdam. Her work forms part of leading institutional permanent collections internationally. In 2020 she has shows at TANK, Shanghai; Remai Modern, Saskatoon and the ICA, Lyon.
